Panasonic JELO Design System Website

About
How Impekable’s award-winning design system and internal JELO design resource center drives brand consistency across Panasonic’s siloed business units.
Panasonic JELO Design System
As a worldwide leader in consumer electronics, Panasonic Corporation offers a number of digital solutions coupled with their electronics technology, including appliances, automotive products, and other connected applications. However, because the company’s approach to design was not unified across its multiple business units, many of these applications and interfaces had inconsistent visual designs and experiences that led to confusion amongst users.
Panasonic Beta’s design division sought to bring design to the forefront by creating a design system and consistent language — housed on an internal web tool called JELO — that could guide each of the company’s business units toward a more cohesive design experience. Facing strapped resources and tight timelines ahead of its planned Demo Week, Panasonic Beta turned to Impekable to design and build this tool.
The Solution
Panasonic Beta envisioned JELO as a resource where team members could share design and engineering best practices, resources, and projects with each other, while also consuming and contributing to content to continually improve their design language.
To deliver this outcome, Impekable worked closely with Panasonic Beta at every step of the process — from project discovery and definition to design and development.
Accelerating Discovery to Plan a Time-Sensitive MVP
At the project’s outset, Impekable began by conducting competitive and user research, defining target user personas, and establishing both an information architecture and a project plan for an MVP version of the website that could be spun up in a short period of time.
Throughout this process, Impekable collaborated closely with Panasonic Beta stakeholders on both the strategy and primary features to be tested with the company’s initial audience, as continued funding of the project relied on JELO making a positive impression on the audience at the Demo Week presentation.
Launching A Comprehensive Design Process
Following this discovery and definition work, Impekable’s designers created and prototyped wireframes and high-fidelity designs spanning several modules, including:
Design system guidelines
Projects, profile, and teams screens
Onboarding flows for different user personas
Custom dashboard landing pages based on users’ responses to onboarding prompts
Notifications
User settings
Team administration settings
Further, Impekable designed workflows that would enable specific users to edit content directly on the new JELO website.
Delivering Successfully for a Demo Week Debut
Following the approval of our design work, Impekable implemented the JELO site, in addition to building a content management system (CMS) that would allow internal team members at Panasonic Beta to oversee and update the content.
In order to implement the front-end content editor on a tight timeline, Impekable researched and leveraged an existing WYSIWYG editor by Froala to bring the editing capabilities to life before Panasonic Beta’s demo week.
The Results
By taking an agile, aggressive approach to Panasonic Beta’s JELO project, Impekable was able to implement key features of the website ahead of the company’s Demo Week, with team members standing by to ensure everything worked smoothly.
Following its Demo Week, a member of Panasonic Beta’s team shared that the JELO website received the most interest from the team, and that it was seen as a resource that could immediately provide value to the team — enabling funding to be secured for its full rollout.
What our clients say about us.
